Warwick Castle (Greville Family)

Warwick Castle was originally built by William the Conqueror during 1068 as a wooden fort. The castle is situated in Warwick, Warwickshire, England and was in the hands of the Greville family from 1604-1978 before it was sold the the Tussards Group.  It is now owned by the Prestbury Group.

Roles

Governess - Woman teacher in a private household

Tutor - Private teacher employed to teach a single pupil or very small group

Butler - Chief male servant of the household and in charge of all household staff

Housekeeper - Employed to manage the household and staff

Nurse/nanny - Care for childred

Under Butler - Assistant to the butler

Cook - Responsible for preparing meals and anything to do with the kitchen

Second Footman - Junior to the butler and expected to serve meals, tending to the door and running errands

Second Housemaid - Assist with household cleaning and other duties, they were below housekeepers but above kitchen staff

Third Housemaid - Assist with household cleaning and other duties, they were below housekeepers but above kitchen staff

Fourth Housemaid - Assist with household cleaning and other duties, they were below housekeepers but above kitchen staff

Stillroom Maid - Working in the stillroom to prepare light meals, beverages and preserves

Under Stillroom Maid - Working in the stillroom to prepare light meals, beverages and preserves reporting to the housekeeper and/or cook

Stewards Room Boy - Maintain the stewards room, running errands, cleaning servants shoe's

Scullery Maid - Responsible for washing dishes and other menial jobs
